The Brief

Helter Skelter approached Phosys to design and build their site, www.helterskelterphotography.co.uk using our bespoke content management system. Allowing the site to be fully editable letting the client change the text and all images themselves, keeping the site fresh and up to date.

The design was to tie in with the existing logo and be kept simple and professional in style, while maintain a friendly and approachable feel. This was achieved using a subtle background texture and accents colours of pink and turquoise taken form the logo.

The brief was also to have an easy to navigate site, Helter Skelter therefore has two menus both at the top of the page and at the bottom, with the menus being consistent in design and location throughout the site. This is a general rule when it comes to navigations on websites.

Galleries

The gallery uses Galleriffic one of our favourite jQuery galleries to use. This uses thumbnails as a form of navigation through the gallery images and works well within the page layout. Forward and back buttons also appear on the galleries large image giving the user an alternative way of browsing Helter Skelter’s Images.

The site also takes advantage of some CSS3 features using a drop shadow and rounded corners to create aspects of the design and to add interest.

CSS stands for Cascading Style sheets and is the language that web designers use to style the look and layout of a site.

CSS 3 is the latest standard which makes available some new elements which were previously only achievable through resource heavy means. To make sure these features work on older web browsers such as Internet Explorer 8 and 7, the site takes advantage of CSS Pie. “PIE stands for Progressive Internet Explorer. It is an IE attached behaviour which, when applied to an element, allows IE to recognize and display a number of CSS3 properties.” (http://css3pie.com/about/)

The FAQ pages also utilises jQuery also using the scroll to function, which after clicking on the question, takes you smoothly down to the answer. The Top buttons take the visitor back to the top in the same fashion.

“My experience of working with Phosys has been an absolute pleasure right from the start. Phosys listened to the brief and delivered a design that I loved first time. They worked quickly and accurately with great attention to detail. Phosys always delivered when they said they would, were extremely helpful throughout and even ensured that I know how to update the site when the time comes. I really can’t recommend them more highly.”
